Carbon Announces Four New Service Bureau Customers – Expanding Access to CLIP Technology

Press Release Carbon Logo.png

CIDEAS, Sculpteo, The Technology House and WestStar Precision offer Carbon’s CLIP technology as part of their additive manufacturing services

REDWOOD CITY, CA – March 1, 2016 – Carbon (Carbon3D, Inc) today announced the addition of leading 3D printing service bureaus and contract manufacturers to its early customer program. CIDEAS, Sculpteo, The Technology House and WestStar Precision now offer access to Carbon’s Continuous Liquid Interface Production (CLIP) technology. CLIP will enable product designers and engineers to produce polymeric parts that have the resolution, surface finish and mechanical properties required for both functional prototyping and production parts for industries as varied as automotive, medical and consumer electronics.

“These new customers are key drivers of innovation and production across industries,” said Joseph DeSimone, CEO and Co-Founder of Carbon. “We’re excited to partner with them and offer expanded access to CLIP to further uncover application opportunities for our technology.”

“Carbon’s range of engineering grade materials are a game-changer in advancing what is possible with additive manufacturing,” said Mike Littrell, President of CIDEAS. “We pride ourselves on partnering with our customers to solve unique challenges and the CLIP-based machine is a powerful tool that helps us create production-quality parts, shorten product development timelines and bring new design concepts to life.”

CLIP uses a tunable photochemical process to rapidly transform 3D models into physical objects. The process works by projecting a continuous sequence of UV images through an oxygen-permeable, UV-transparent window below a liquid resin. The dead zone created above the window maintains a liquid interface while the part advances above. CLIP leverages a range of materials which were designed to meet common engineering requirements — from the elongation and resilience expected of an injection molded polyurethane elastomer to the temperature resistance of a glass-filled Nylon, and many more.

Since unveiling CLIP in March 2015, Carbon has set forth a bold vision to accelerate the future of manufacturing by introducing the world to the possibilities of a future fabricated with light.

About CIDEAS

The first service bureau to join Carbon’s early customer program, CIDEAS (buildparts.com), founded in 1998, is a full-service, Additive Manufacturing (AM) and 3D Printing Center. Utilizing over 30 in-house machines, CIDEAS capabilities include: CLIP (New for 2016), Stereolithography (SLA), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), PolyJet, Urethane Casting, and Part Finishing. Within the last 18 years, CIDEAS has become one of the most advanced 3D Print centers in the United States. For more information please visit buildparts.com

ABOUT SCULPTEO

Sculpteo is an online 3D printing service based in the San Francisco area and Paris. They offer on-demand 3D printing of individual products as well as short-run manufacturing. They have over 50 materials, colours and finishes available, plus superior file analysis and repair. Their factories use only professional printers and provide fast turnaround times with worldwide delivery. For more information please visit sculpteo.com/en

ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY HOUSE

The Technology House is a leading provider and full service design through production team blending additive manufacturing, cast urethane, plastic injection molding, multi-axis CNC machining; turning your ideas into tomorrow’s products. The Technology House serves a growing range of businesses in the medical, aerospace, defense, industrial, energy and consumer products markets. For more information please visit tth.com

ABOUT WESTSTAR PRECISION

WestStar Precision serves customers in aerospace, medical, biotech and alternative energy sectors with high tech manufacturing of products. The company has developed best practice standards in the area of precision machining and assembly of metal and plastic components built to customer specification around the world. Carbon’s CLIP technology is the company’s first foray into 3D printing. WestStar has been watching the market for years but was never convinced to enter, because of the slow speed, high cost and limited mechanical properties available from other technology. ABOUT CARBON

Carbon is working at the intersection of hardware, software and molecular science to deliver on the promise of 3D printing, enabling creators to think beyond the limitations of convention to design the parts and products that will drive the businesses of the future. Carbon’s Continuous Liquid Interface Production technology (CLIP) was introduced simultaneously at TED 2015 and to the scientific community on the cover of Science Magazine (Science, March 2015). To date Carbon has received $141 Million in funding. For more information please visit Carbon3D.com or follow Carbon on Twitter @Carbon3D
